Friends and residents of the Eastern Cape – and especially book lovers – have a terrific opportunity to learn more about the cultural richness of their region when two local authors bring their poetry and stories to SunKissed, a specialist arts and craft shop at the East London Airport on 15 June.
The literary VIPs are the poet Monde Nkasawe, who will chat about his latest publication The Fullness of Time (Kwartz), and the award-winning author of six novels, Ncedile Saule, who is also an academic who is an authority on the history of Xhosa literature.
Shop owner, Bukelwa Ngoqo, is an enterprising writer in her own right, who recognises the challenges authors face in getting their books to market, as well as their need to engage with readers.

A brief six months after opening the doors of SunKissed in August 2015, Bukelwa was one of 46 small business owners chosen nationally to participate in the SAB Foundation Tholoana Enterprise Programme from a field of 2000 applicants. "Her commitment, creativity and her desire to create opportunities for talented artists in the Eastern Cape made her stand out," said Anton Ressel, who was on the selection panel.
Responding to the marketing skills learned on the programme, she took the innovative decision to expand her range to include local literature alongside the Afrocentric craft and fashion items on her shop floor. "The response has been heartwarming! There's a real thirst for South African literature," she said.
Guests will receive a welcome drink and snacks at 16h00 on 15 June at the KEG upstairs at the East London Airport. For catering purposes, please RSVP via Bukelwa.Ngoqo@gmail.com or Whatsapp 0638729751.
