Not many visitors come to the farm,
but the sudden rain has charmed
a festival of frogs out of the mud,
every channel, crevice, fissure
in the ground. A teeming hoard
of green-gold coins, exploding
sovereigns, elasticated stars.
They sit throbbing in our hands,
squeezing in under the kitchen door,
looking up at us, eyes resinous,
such perfect textured miniatures.
All those hopeful pulsing throats,
the air vibrating with their croaks.
We have come out of the earth,
the rains have called us here.
Now what will you do?
