KZN's premier book festival, the Midlands Literary Festival, is just around the corner, two weekends away, on 27–28 August.
As usual we have a bumper line-up for book lovers and others who like to hear from and interact with the authors themselves in a wonderfully relaxed Midlands atmosphere.
Among the many top-rate speakers and topics I highlight just a few: Nkosinathi Sithole (Sunday Times fiction prize winner 2016) on his Hunger eats a man; Thomas Mollett on revisiting the Reeva Steenkamp murder; Jessica Pitchford (Switched at birth); Karina Szczurek, widow of the late André P Brink, on Flame in the snow – the love letters of André Brink and Ingrid Jonker; former Witness editor John Conyngham (Hazara – elegy for an African farm, his first book in about two decades); and Fikile Hlatshwayo on Blacks do caravan.
There will also be some five-star local flavour! No pun intended, but renowned celebrity chef Jackie Cameron, who recently launched her own School of Food and Wine in Hilton, will speak about her highly acclaimed new book, Baking with Jackie Cameron, while Nikki Brighton will tell us all about Mnandi – a taste of Mphophomeni.
And there’s more, of course. A Facebook page titled “Midlands Literary Festival 2016” will be up and running in the next day or two with further details.
