The RAD Foundation will once again host the annual Montagu Music, Art, Dance and Drama Festival (MMADD) from the 10th to the 20th August in Montagu on Route 62. This event is now in it’s 21st year.

MMADD draws talent mainly from primary, high school and tertiary education institutions in Cape Town and the surrounding areas, including Port Elizabeth, Mossel Bay, Worcester and George. The festival categories are Music, Art, Photography, Dance, Literature, Poetry, Drama and Puppetry. The theme for the Art entries this year is This is Me.

The festival event was started in 1995 by local teachers, the town’s tourism office and volunteers, and has grown in strength over the past two decades. In 2011, Helen Gooderson took over the reins as Festival Director. She simultaneously registered the Rural Arts Development programme (RAD) as an NPO. The festival works closely with RAD and offers an excellent opportunity for talented youth in the rural communities to have a performance platform and gives developing talent the chance to network with artists and professionals from all over the province.

The adjudicators in the various categories this year are Ricardo Koopman and Cleo Notcutt (Dance); Emile Minnie and Wesley Lewis (Music); Godfrey Johnson, Heather Mollentze and Karen Jeynes (Drama); Marion Morrel (Art); Laresa Perlman and Lome Burger ( Photography) and  Anita de Kok (Skrywersburo) for Literature. Trophies will be awarded to individuals and groups in their respective sections. All entrants receive certificates at the prize giving ceremonies taking place at the end of the festival. Other special awards include Master Classes with Emile Minnie, Laresa Perlman, Brigitte Reeve-Taylor, as well as tickets to performances at Artscape by Cape Town Opera, Cape Philharmonic Orchestra and Cape Town City Ballet.

The adjudication venue will be NG Church Hall for all dance, music and drama performances. The choir competition will take place on 12th August  in the beautiful NG Church at 18h30.

Daily tickets are available at the door and cost R20 for adults and R10 for scholars  or R50 for a 4 day pass. Additional info is via 082 886 8023 and Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/events/296207703729523
