Kaapstadse Kamerkoor en die Missouri State University Chorale
Op Vrydag 20 Mei 2016 bied die Kaapstadse Kamerkoor ’n konsert aan saam met die Missouri State University Chorale, wat vir die eerste keer in Suid-Afrika toer.
Die Missouri State University bied ’n omvangryke koorsang- en dirigentopleidingkursus aan wat verskeie kore behels, insluitende ’n mannekoor, ’n vrouekoor en gemengde kore van verskeie groottes. Die Chorale is die prestigegroep, bestaande uit sangers wat ’n streng keuring deurstaan het. Hierdie koor tree gereeld op by koorsimposiums in die VSA en onderneem toere na ander lande.
Hulle word gedirigeer deur Cameron F LaBarr, die direkteur van die hele koorprogram. Hy is ’n oudstudent van sy voorganger aan die Missouri State University, Guy B. Webb, en het na afloop van sy studies aan verskillende Amerikaanse universiteite kore gedirigeer. Hy tree wêreldwyd op as dirigent en leermeester, onder meer in Salzburg, Swede, Suid-Afrika en China. In 2017 sal hy feeskonserte dirigeer in Assisi en die Vatikaanstad.
Die Kaapstadse Kamerkoor is in 2010 gestig deur Leon Starker. Hy is opgevolg deur Margaret Barlow. Sedert 2013 staan die koor onder leiding van Marijke de Villiers-Roos, ’n ervare pianis en koordirigent. Sy gee musiek aan die Hoër Meisieskool Bloemhof op Stellenbosch. Die koor tree gereeld op in die Wes-Kaap by konserte en spesiale geleenthede. Onlangse optredes was ’n gedeelde konsert met die Phoenix Chorale uit Zimbabwe en tydens die dirigentsimposium in Kaapstad. Later vanjaar word ’n konsert beplan saam met die Cape Consort, ’n groep wat in vroeë musiek uit die Renaissance en die Barok spesialiseer.
Tydens Vrydagaand se konsert sal die Missouri State University Chorale ’n program van hoogtepunte uit hul repertorium aanbied. Die Kaapstadse Kamerkoor voer werke uit van Johannes Brahms en Felix Mendelssohn, begelei deur Liza Joubert.

Cape Town Chamber Choir and the Missouri State University Choir
On Friday 20 May 2016 the Cape Town Chamber Choir will present a concert in collaboration with the Missouri State University Chorale, who will be touring in South Africa for the first time.
The Missouri State University offers an extensive programme for choral singing and conductor training, which includes a number of choirs. Among others there is a male voice choir, a female voice choir and mixed choirs of different sizes. The Chorale is the prestige group, consisting of singers who were selected after a rigorous auditioning process. This choir often performs in the USA at choir symposiums and tours to other countries.
They are conducted by Cameron F LaBarr, the director of the whole programme. He is an alumnus of his predecessor at the Missouri State University, Guy B Webb. After completing his studies, LaBarr conducted choirs at a number of American universities. He performs internationally as choir conductor and clinician, amongst others in Salzburg, Sweden, South Africa and China. In 2017 he will conduct festival concerts in Assisi and the Vatican City.
The Cape Town Chamber Choir was founded in 2010 by Leon Starker. He was succeeded as conductor by Margaret Barlow. Since 2013 the choir is conducted by Marijke de Villiers Roos, an experienced pianist and choral director. She teaches Music at Bloemhof Girls’ High in Stellenbosch. The choir performs regularly in the Western Cape at concerts and special occasions. Recent performances include a shared concert with the Phoenix Chorale from Zimbabwe, and participation in the Choir Leaders’ Symposium in Cape Town during May. A concert with The Cape Consort (a group specialising in early music from the Renaissance and the Baroque) will take place in September.
During Friday night’s concert the Missouri State University Chorale will present a programme of highlights from their repertoire. The Cape Town Chamber Choir will perform works by Johannes Brahms and Felix Mendelssohn, accompanied by Liza Joubert.
